Mature Student

At Sault College, we respect those who have the courage to change their lives for the better. We value the life experience you bring into an institution of learning after being out there in the world. Here, you’ll be welcomed and respected as well as made to feel comfortable in our educational setting no matter your age. From on-site child care for those students with families to understanding profs who will do what they can to work around your life schedule, Sault College goes above and beyond to make sure your return to school goes as smoothly and successfully as possible. We know you can do it. Just give us a try.

A mature student is someone who is 19 years of age or older by the first day of College and has not graduated from high school. If you have graduated from high school but haven’t been to school in a while, you’re an adult learner.

If you’re a mature student, you can still apply to College, and have two options:

  • You can pay $25 to write the Canadian Academic Achievement Test (CAAT) for Math and/or English requirements only or you can take Academic Upgrading for free to get your high school equivalency for any of our college programs.
If you’re an adult learner – that, is, have graduated from high school and have been out of school for a while, you still may want to consider free Academic Upgrading to re-fresh your skills before the start of your program. Call Rike Landry at 705-759-2554 ext., 2733.

If you think you have the requirements for the College program you’re interested in, you’ll want to do the following:

  1. Go online to www.ontariocolleges.ca by February 1st for equal consideration. Follow the prompts to complete the four step process. There is a non-refundable $95 fee to apply.
  2. Watch for communication from Sault College. If you are accepted, we will mail you an offer of admission to let you know.
  3. Offers of admission are sent out after February 1st. You’ll want to confirm before May 1st or your seat may be offered to the next person wanting to study here.
  4. To confirm your offer of admission, you'll need to go back online to confirm at www.ontariocolleges.ca.
  5. Once you have confirmed your offer, we will send you your confirmation package in the mail which will include information on your fee payment deadlines, other important dates and portal instructions.
  6. Pay your fees to save your spot. We will let you know what else you will need along the way.
